International Gathering of the Clan MacNicol on Skye, 2008
The 2008 Clan MacNicol International Gathering on Skye was attended by over 70 members from around the world. The Scottish weather on the "Misty Isles" of Skye, was variable and challenging for some, but all enjoyed the friendship and get-together.The first hill walk was shortened due to forecast bad weather, but was well attended and a most enjoyable stroll, through the Clan Lands in occasional showers, to the old Scorrybreac homestead. The bus trip to Trotternish featured those game enough to get out of the bus to view the rain & windswept sights, to those content to be sheltered and enjoying the most informative guide of the area. Due to rising waters it was impossible to get onto Columbas Island and the Nicolson Aisle of the ruined church, highlighting the conditions those early residents would have endured. The Cullin Hills Hotel was warm and welcoming for meetings plus the Ceilidh and dinner which was much enjoyed by all, with performers from around the globe. The boat trip on Portree Harbour was a great addition to the programme, giving all a wonderful and different perspective of the Lands from sea level, all on a nice sunny day! For the fitter and gamer, a short climb to the ancient Dun Torvaig Fort ruins atop the lands also afforded a different view of Portree and the surrounding from high atop our domain of Ben Chracaig.See more photos in our Gallery on this page here. Next gathering will be in Canada 2010, start saving and planning now!
